Mitomycin-C

Prescriptions and products

Mitomycin C is a chemotherapy with antitumour properties which was isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces Caespitosus in 1958. Mitomycin C was first used as an intravesical agent in 1967 for the treatment of bladder cancer1.

Mitomycin C is an alkylating agent, which works by interfering with the cross linking of DNA.

In the UK Mitomycin C is licensed for both intravesical and systemic therapy and is therefore used to treat a range of cancers including superficial bladder cancer1.

For guidance on the management of superficial bladder cancer please
refer to the current EAU guidelines2.

NMP22

Products

The NMP22® Bladderchek® is a painless and non-invasive assay, performed on a single urine sample, which detects elevated levels of NMP22 protein.

Healthy individuals generally have very small amounts of NMP22 protein in the urine. However the level of NMP22 protein is often elevated in the urine of patients with bladder cancer, even at the early stages of the disease1.

The NMP22® Bladderchek® test can be performed in clinic with results delivered during the patient visit, allowing a rapid2&3 and cost effective1&3 way to improve the accuracy of cystoscopy2 and aid the detection of bladder cancer in patients at risk.
